National Voter Registration Day: Map Shows Deadlines In Key Swing States

It’s National Voter Registration day, a nonpartisan action day to mobilize voter registration across the United States.
Although it is important to register to vote in every state, as House, Senate, and down-ballot races will be decided across the country, the Presidential Election is likely defined by voters in seven swing states.
States across the country have different registration days, and different laws around voting.
Vote.org CEO Andrea Hailey told Newsweek: “The Constitution allows states to set their own election laws—and because these laws vary, the most important thing is to make a plan to register and vote.”
She urged voters: “Don’t leave [registering] to the last minute. This is especially important for voters who have moved since the last time they voted, since the rules could be different in their new state.”
To help explain voter registration deadlines in the seven key swing states expected to define the 2024 election, Newsweek compiled a map of the voter registration deadlines in Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin.
Arizona voters only have until October 7 to register to vote. Online, mail, and in-person registration all close on that day. Arizonans need to bring ID with them to the polls, but it does not need to be a photo ID. Arizona citizens can check their registration status at Voter Registration Search.
Georgia voters also have until October 7 to register to vote either online, by mail, or in person. Georgia voters also are subject to Voter ID Laws, and will be turned away from the polls if they do not have a photo ID on them. They can check their voter registration status at Elections Portal.
Michigan voters can register to vote online or by mail by October 21. However, they also have same-day voting, so unregistered voters can sign up at the polls on November 5. Photo ID is required in Michigan. Michiganders can check their registration status at My Voter Information.
Nevada voters have a few different dates to keep in mind. Online registration is by October 23. However, the mail registration deadline must be postmarked by October 8. That said, Nevada has same-day registration, so voters can also register at the polls on election day.
North Carolina voters can register online until Friday, October 11. Similarly they can mail in their registration on the 11, so long as it is postmarked for that day. North Carolina voters have same day registration available to them but only during early voting. North Carolina requires voter ID. Voters can search for their name on the rolls here at Voter Search.
Pennsylvania voters have until October 21 to register in person, online, or by mail. They do not need to bring ID to the polls, and can check their registration here at Voter Registration Status.
Wisconsin voters only have until October 16 to register online or by mail, but can register at the polls on election day. They do need to bring photo ID to the polls. They can find out their voter registration details at My Vote Wisconsin.
